17th Annual veteran/vintage BOC motorcycle meet at Megarrys Blackmore the best yet!

After weeks of worry over the weather Sunday dawned clear and sunny…..and stayed that way all day. What a relief! For weeks there have been floods all over Essex, including by our village pond. Last week we would have been lucky to get any motorbikes.

Yesterday there were 250 on one count in the middle of the day, but they were coming and going all day so goodness knows how many there were in total!

It was an amazing turnout….. Here are some of the pictures we took .

We had our work cut out in the teashop serving them all with tea, coffee, home made cakes and rolls.I had 4 staff helping me Ollie, Spencer,Georgia, and Amy, and they did an amazing job keeping up with the demand, even during a brief power cut!! Thanks are also due to the motorcyclist who brought trays of mugs back so we could keep up with the washing up … sorry I didn’t get his name!!!! Once again we were amazed that there wasn’t a scrap of rubbish left in our garden or patio or on the Village Green. Spencer took a photo after they’d all gone and it was as if no one had been on the Green . Thank you all for that and for being so good natured whilst waiting in the inevitable queue for refreshments.

Thanks also to the BOC for lending us an extra teaurn and serving table.

Contrary to the BOC quarterly news sheet entry , the BOC 17th annual vintage/veteran motorcycle meet at Jericho cottage Blackmore is NOT tomorrow (saturday12th)

IT IS THIS SUNDAY13th MAY from 10 am onwards.

The weather is hopefully set fair so there should be a good turnout, and the teashop will be open earlier than usual ie 9.30 am.

ANNUAL BOC vintage and veteran motorcycle meet IS ON SUNDAY 13TH MAY as usual. NOTthe 13th April as previously posted.

There will be lots of veteran and vintage motorbikes that day, and we will have the Teashop open with plenty of extra staff from 9.30 am . Most of the motorcyclists arrive between 10 and 11 am but there will be lots coming and going well into the afternoon…….. weather permitting. Telephone Peter or Judi for more info 01277821031

OUR EASTER opening times are as follows:-

GOOD FRIDAY 11 till4.30 pm.

SATURDAY as normal 10 till 5pm

EASTER SUNDAY 10 till 4pm. HAPPY EASTER

EASTER BANK HOLIDAY MONDAY 11 till 4pm

Wednesday 11th onwards … our normal opening times apply ie 10 am till 5pm.

‘Hen’Teaparty in Megarrys teashop in Blackmore

Georgia and Spencer at work at our first Hen teaparty!!

They did really well, and everyone was happy

….including the brides baby neice . She was a little darling and smiled all the time. It was a really enjoyable afternoon for us too. Now I’m waiting to see the wedding photos!

This was our first inside teaparty and it worked well because there were only 7 guests. It is difficult to cater for more than that in the teashop but we can cope with more outside on the patio in the summer

We had a 40th birthday party in the garden last year with about 10 mums and their children after school one hot sunny afternoon

BBC Essex Quest found Megarrys Antiques and teashop this morning

That was a suprise.!! I had a phone call from Essex radio in the week asking if they could leave a clue for ‘The BBC Radio Essex Quest’.

On Sunday morning I got up early and hid the envelope thinking we’d have a long wait till they found us. The clues to get here mentioned a ROAD TRIP, A PC ‘s number which turned out to be P C MEGARRYof Camberwick GREEN and the name of a guitarist in ‘Deep purple’ which was Ritchie BLACKMORE. Then it was said ‘lets hope the walls don’t come tumbling down’, meaning in this case JERICHO wall. Thanks to listeners the clues were soon pieced together, and they reached here in record time, in fact as early as 9:30.
But then they got stuck The next set of clues involved Pc Megarrys friend turned out to be WINDY MILLER , and something about a High place with a Grand name Turned out to be The Wind mill at Stansted Mountfitchet, but it took ages for people to give them enough clues. Sadly this time they failed to get to the third place in time.ots of people ringing in they were here by about 9.30 .

Antiques Road trip Essex at Megarrys Antiques Blackmore 21/2/2012

At last …….. I was beginning to think the programme filmed here in Megarrys last August would never reach the T V!!! In fact a bit of me was half hoping it wouldn’t. I’ve spent several sleepless nights worrying about seeing the reality of me as others see me!I hate having my photo taken and this was worse. Anyway its out there now, and Margie Cooper was easy to work with.

It was a shame she didn’t make a profit from the bits she bought, but as they said at the beginning of the programme everything was going into a specialist collectors sale, and I just don’t normally stock automobillia, or militaria. It was a fluke that I had a pair of ARP cycle lamps, and Peter found her an old Petrol can from his garage!!!

My usual stock includes Ceramics, Glass ,Copper and Brass, Silver, Boxes, small furniture, Blue and white transfer printed china, oil lamps, postcards, and general collectibles, from the 18th, 19th and early 20th centuries.

One amazing coincidence however. As a child I lived in the Medway towns in Kent ,and latterly my parents lived in Frindsbury just round the corner from’ Bills Posh Junk’ which was also featured in the programme. Whenever I went home I used to pop in there .

In fact on my last visit I bought a lovely Victorian Wrought iron Gate from Bill, which has pride of place at the entrance to our garden from the customer teashop patio area. The railings that now support a hand rail by our Victorian glasshouse also came from Bill.

I knew Margie and Mark had started out in Kent but didn’t know where… you can imagine my suprise when I saw my old hunting ground and home towns in the same programme. That was the icing on the cake for me!!!!………………. which reminds me I must order extra cakes from Peters sister Winnie for this weekend in case (hopefully)there are lots of new customers in the teashop as well as the antique shop, following the publicity for us and the village in the programme See you soon Judi

On SUNDAY THE 25th MARCH………

THE VINTAGE ”COBWEB” RUN will meet here for Coffee at about11.30 am. Weather permitting there should be between 30 and 40 lovely old motorcycles lined up outside Jericho cottage!

Then on FRIDAY THE 27th APRIL THE VINTAGE CLUB ”BLUEBELL” RUN will meet here for a coffee break at about 11 am.

Snow in Blackmore at Megarrys Antiques and teashop.

Will this cold never end?? I used to love the snow when I was younger but now EUGH……. Blackmore village and Jericho cottage Garden look really pretty after another snowfall last night.

The pond is still frozen, but the trees are dripping now!!Lets hope it doesn’t freeze again tonight!

There are now about 30 ducks on the village pond this morning all clamouring to be fed every time anyone goes past

……..Poor things are slipping and sliding on the ice!

On that subject…………. A moan . Why in the name of heaven don’t all shopkeepers and Business owners clear the snow from their fronts??? I’ve done ours with the help of one of my staff last week , but today did it myself again(despite a bad back and new knee) and spread rock salt . I’d never forgive myself if one of my customers fell . I was horrified earlier in the week………………….

… the snow hadn’t been cleared outside our local surgery.I’ve reported it to the powers that be at Chelmsford County council Brentwood Borough Council and the local parish council Hopefully one of them will take responsibility before someone has a nasty accident!

Cant wait till it’s all gone so more of my customers can get out and come to the teashop for a warming Hot chocolate or Soup and roll!!Spring is just round the corner!!!
